UPDG Team Player - Kat Mertsch

PICK 9 Interview

Each UPDG Team Player picks 9 questions to answer from a much larger list.

How would your 10 year old self react to what you do now?

Little Kat would be so proud of me. She always wanted to escape to a new place to live a peaceful and free life because at the time her life was simply chaotic. I am proud to be entering my 20’s carrying my inner child's free spirit and to be fulfilling my dream of happiness.

Who do you admire most in the world?

I admire myself because of my strength and constant persistence. Failure/giving up has never been an option and never will. That doesn’t mean I didn’t have days where I couldn't get out of bed but I fought my way out of many dark places that my mind tried to keep me in. You cannot have flowers without the rain.

Do you think you’ll likely accomplish all of your dreams?

Yes. I have the type of mind to do whatever I set out in life. And no, I am not being cocky. I just know what I am capable of.

How do you define beauty?

Beauty has no definition. It is in the eye of the beholder. If you really think about it, everything has some type of beauty.

What is an essential part of your daily routine?

Making a choice on how I will feel, react, and how I can improve my golf game that day. I believe that everyone has a choice on how they want to live their life. People will use bad things that happened to them to justify toxic/unhealthy behavior because being honest with yourself is a tough pill to swallow sometimes.

What’s your favorite thing about your current job?

The people. I love to see people out at the tournaments who are just stoked to be alive in that very moment. It’s pure.

Do you have a work bestie?

Yes. Her name is Deann Carey. She’s loud, obnoxious and rude and I wouldn’t have her any other way! I’m only joking. Deann is actually a very sweet person who I look forward to watching her success in her career and growing a lifelong friendship.

Do you believe in love at first sight?

I didn’t until I met Nikko. I thought he had the most beautiful glow and vibration I had ever seen. I know that I will never meet anyone like him again in my life.

When you want to give up, what keeps you going?

Knowing that other people dream about being in the position that I'm already in. I try to practice gratitude and appreciation as much as I can because life is too short to worry about the what ifs.
